Misleading advertising
I don't know if you have watched this movie or not. If you haven't then you should and then let me know if you agree with me or not. I'm addicted to movies and I watch trailers all day and I know all the movies coming out until next year. So my judgment isn't bias as you might think. I saw this movie trailer at the beginning of the year and said YES?! that's a hell of a movie I must watch it. Johnny Depp is in it and the trailer is captivating.I went to the theater and found myself a little bit bored because the movies wasn't that great and at some point I couldn't figure out who was the villain and what was the point of it by the trailer you wont say that it is a love story and that he lives to please her you think that the movie is scientific, exciting and you get a feeling of rush. Believe me when I tell you it isn't like that. It isn't a bad movie is quite interesting and very educational. However, if you make a trailer with lots of action and suspense people will expect nothing more nothing less than an action movie. My friends liked it but to be honest I did not. As a marketing student I learned that you have to deliver what you promised. It is important for your customers to know that they can trust your brand and your adverts must be the mirror to your products. Of course that movies are a little bit different because you can't make blockbusters all the time but people expect much from you after a certain performance. Some movie trailers make you want to go and watch it at the cinemas others just don't even tho the lead actor is a good one. I just dislike the fact that it has become too easy to make a movie and most of the time the director or the writer loses the focus and the history gets confused. I think that they are not making that much of an effort to make good movies. There are lots of movies that don't make it to the big screens, there are a lot of good movies but we are lacking great movies.Movies that will make you laugh so hard you will cry, action movies that have a twist in the end, suspense movies that actually makes you think, thrillers that are not about exorcism or devil. Its all cliches now. The trailers are better than the actual movie.Less people are going to the cinema not only because of the internet but because its predictable. Back in the days, before the 3D movies it was all about sending a message or making people want to be like their idols(ex: Rambo). Lately the movies are less impressive and more commercial (ex: James Bond). I have nothing against product placement I just think that nowadays everything is about the brands and how well you fit in the society. Products are supposed to make you feel good not to make you jealous or give you a reality check. When you go to the cinema you want to relax, have a good time and just forget about everything but if you regret the money you paid then it isn't worthy.

The ALS ice bucket challenge
Have you heard of the ALS ice bucket challenge? no?? are you living under a rock?? Come on!! It is all over Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Just in case you haven’t heard I’ll try my best to explain it. It is basically a game people (mostly famous) are playing to create awareness for the disease called Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Learn more of the ALS here: http://www.alsa.org/about-als/what-is-als.html . Let me explain how the challenge works. You get challenge by a friend to throw a bucket of ice or really cold water to your body so that you can feel what people with ALS feels. You have the choice of accepting or denying the challenge. When you get challenged you have 24 hours to do it. If you accept the challenge you have to donate usd10 to an organisation of your choice. Whereas, if you deny you have to donate usd100. The ALS ice bucket has been a trending topic on Instragam and Facebook I think it started with Oprah and now everybody all over the world is doing it. Some people just do the challenge and don’t donate the money. Others instead of ice buckets are throwing money, rice, etc. I think that it’s ok if you don’t want to partake but it is a serious matter and should be taken seriously. The reason why they use ice bucket is because the reaction your body has to the ice and cold water when you do the challenge is the same they have when their motor neuron degenerate. I get that it is just to make people know about the disease but if you have money instead of showing just donate. If you accept the challenge it means that you want to feel the pain even if it’s only for a couple of seconds. It is known fact that if a well known person or role model does it regular people will follow. My only problem is that people are too lazy to find out what is out there and even when there is people like Oprah, Cristiano Ronald, Lionel Messi, Chris Brown, Zendaya are trying to create an awareness for a serious matter the public will only focus on what they are doing and don’t even want to know why. People always find negative things to say just to be against you even if you are doing it for a good cause. I hope that after you read this you go on to the website and find out more about the disease. Click here: http://www.alsa.org/about-us/what-we-do.html .

The correlation of music and real life
Have you ever noticed that music can change
your mood, your attitude, your perception of something if you pay attention to
the lyrics or just the rhythm? Have you noticed that if you are driving and a
song that you really like is playing on the radio you turn up the volume and “perform”?
When people are sad they put the headphones on and unplug the world around them
just so they can feel better. I’m a music lover so, I think that music helps
you through hard times and is your soundtrack on happy moments. For me its like
music is the unspoken words you thought of but you haven’t said and somebody
else is braver than u to say it out loud. That’s why you can relate to it. The funny
thing is that music like books take you to a different zone (happy or sad). It’s
like you get stuck in a different dimension and have to have more and more of
it like a drug. As everything in life it isn't for free, well if you download
it illegally it is but the making of it and to have it played on the radio isn't.
Music sometimes sells for itself but most of the time is through the singer
that if you don’t like even if the message is clear and affects you it won’t
mean anything. The same with people they might be saying or doing something
useful but if you don’t like them it won’t mean anything to you.
The internet recipe dilema
So I saw the dish on Pinterest (weenie.com; I wish
I could give the URL but Pinterest blocks me every time I try to copy it so log
in or go to my page and you will find it there).I taught I should try it out
since I like to cook everything I see that looks interesting and will change
the routine. I took the ingredients list and went grocery shopping I had
trouble finding some of the things because I didn't know what they were( I’m a Portuguese
speaker so sometimes I don’t know what some words mean). I managed to get all
the ingredients except the jalapenos because I didn't want it to be spicy and I
couldn't find it. I got home and started preparing the food I changed some of
it because it needed to be appealing to me and my family. So I followed all the
steps and I noticed that I couldn't only wrap 2 slices of bacon on each chicken
breast so, I added more to cover all the chicken breast left. I added peppers
and baking cream because the cream cheese and cheddar cheese mixture was too
heavy. Here is my problem, every time I take a recipe from the internet I have
to change something even if it is a cake (I have to change the measures) because
if I follow it 100% it won’t be good. I don’t know if I do it wrong or
something. Moving on, I added peppers and I put it on the oven and I left it
there for 25 min. when I took it off I wasn't nothing like the picture, it
tasted good but it didn't look the same. I always thought in my mind that they Photoshop
the things they put on the internet or on TV. However, you should try it. Its really
good and healthy, I ate it with side salad and fried banana. Friday, 15 August 2014
Be a problem solver
When
I first heard that I had to create a marketing blog I was quite concerned about
it because I’m not a blog kind of a person. I went to Google and tried to find
out how to create one. so, I found lots of websites that allow you to create
your own blog but with the servers' domain. I created an account in several
websites just to see how it works and I needed to see if it was appealing to
me. Then, I narrowed down my list to five sites: wordpress, webs, BlogSpot,
blogger and Wix. Wix was giving me a hard time because it was cracking all the
time. I couldn't choose a theme or manage my account so I just left it there. BlogSpot
was too much work, to create an account you have to go back and forth and that’s
annoying. It looked complicated to me. I don’t do complicated; I like things
that are straight forward. Wordpress was basic and you don’t have much choice because
most of the things that will show your creativity are locked (you have to pay
for it). As a student and a youngster I don’t pay for staff on the internet so,
I just left the site. I opted to use webs and left blogger as a back up plan. So
I created an account, I posted some stuff and the site started to crack. It was
taking for ever to upload, change the style, and it wouldn't post my posts some
times then I decided to give blogger a chance. The reason I had a list of five
programs to choose from is because I learned that in life you always have to
have options so that if you are not happy with what you have or if something
goes wrong you always have a substitute product. You always have to make a
research and see what is appealing to you and narrow down your options. As a
marketer I will always look for a substitute or complementary product because
if plan ABC doesn't work you must have XYZ.
