The ALS ice bucket challenge

Have you heard of the ALS ice bucket challenge? no?? are you living under a rock?? Come on!! It is all over Instagram, Facebook, Twitter and YouTube. Just in case you haven’t heard I’ll try my best to explain it. It is basically a game people (mostly famous) are playing to create awareness for the disease called Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), often referred to as "Lou Gehrig's Disease," is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that affects nerve cells in the brain and the spinal cord. Learn more of the ALS here:  http://www.alsa.org/about-als/what-is-als.htmlLet me explain how the challenge works. You get challenge by a friend to throw a bucket of ice or really cold water to your body so that you can feel what people with ALS feels. You have the choice of accepting or denying the challenge. When you get challenged you have 24 hours to do it. If you accept the challenge you have to donate usd10 to an organisation of your choice. Whereas, if you deny you have to donate usd100. The ALS ice bucket has been a trending topic on Instragam and Facebook I think it started with Oprah and now everybody all over the world is doing it. Some people just do the challenge and don’t donate the money. Others instead of ice buckets are throwing money, rice, etc. I think that it’s ok if you don’t want to partake but it is a serious matter and should be taken seriously. The reason why they use ice bucket is because the reaction your body has to the ice and cold water when you do the challenge is the same they have when their motor neuron degenerate. I get that it is just to make people know about the disease but if you have money instead of showing just donate. If you accept the challenge it means that you want to feel the pain even if it’s only for a couple of seconds. It is known fact that if a well known person or role model does it regular people will follow. My only problem is that people are too lazy to find out what is out there and even when there is people like Oprah, Cristiano Ronald, Lionel Messi, Chris Brown, Zendaya are trying to create an awareness for a serious matter the public will only focus on what they are doing and don’t even want to know why. People always find negative things to say just to be against you even if you are doing it for a good cause. I hope that after you read this you go on to the website and find out more about the disease. Click here: http://www.alsa.org/about-us/what-we-do.html .
